Gems of Robert Murray McCheyne Just Added

  • July 9th, 2008

Gems of Robert Murray McCheyneMcCheyne, a 19th Century Scottish minister had a way with language that made him a wonderful and warm preacher of the Gospel. These gems are just that: jewels, small but bright, cut just right. They will adorn your mind and soul with holy truths and godly thoughts. The book is a collection of short but beautiful pieces that exalt Christ, teach the plain truths of the Gospel, and give the soul much to contemplate and to meditate upon. These can be used for personal reading and meditation. They can also profitably be used in family worship, easily explained to children. The Scripture passage that inspired the gems will be evident to most Christians familiar with the Bible. For others, the gems will lead them to further delve into the Word of God. The images, metaphors and similes that McCheyne uses, although they are from another century, are all quite vivid to the reader in the 21st Century. I highly recommend this book. Take a little time on the Lord’s Day to sit in a peaceable place and meditate on these gems. It will be an experience much like contemplating a beautiful diamond. Only these gems have an eternal value to them that will follow your soul even to the New Heavens and the New Earth, while you leave your diamond rings behind.

Pre-Pub Special: Paul S. Rees

  • May 24th, 2008

Paul S. Rees by Glenn D. BlackPaul S. Rees, Portrait of a Preacher is an exciting new book by gifted writer Glenn D. Black, former editor of God’s Revivalist. Dr. Stephen F. Olford writes, “I doubt if I knew any man who pursued holiness like Paul Rees. He not only learned it, he not only taught it, he not only preached it, he lived it! When you were with Paul Rees there was an awesome sense of God. He was a saint!” The same sentiments are echoed by Cliff Barrow of the Billy Graham Evangelistic Association: “Paul Rees believed in holiness of life and character. He preached it and taught it and he lived it! He made you thirsty for a holy life. As we read the pages of this book, may each of us experience again these unmistakable characteristics of his life and legacy and say with the hymn writer of old, “More holiness give me, more striving within.” God grant that this might be so in your life and in mine. What greater challenge could there ever be in the 21st century?” Buy Paul S. Rees: Portrait of a Preacher now and we’ll ship when stocks become available in early June, 2008.

New: Bringing Back the Gospel

  • May 24th, 2008

Written by evangelist Tom Bear, founder of Stones Cry Out Ministries, this book calls attention to the fact that in the twenty-first century, the evangelism practices of most churches and their missionaries are inconsistent with the Biblical pattern. If you are like most Christians, your understanding of Biblical evangelism is sketchy, making you a perfect candidate to read this book. If you do read it, you will likely become aware of unbiblical evangelism philosophies and practices going on all around you. You will also learn what the Bible teaches about evangelism and be motivated to engage in it wholeheartedly. Is so-called “Friendship Evangelism” biblical? Buy online now!

New Lilias Trotter Book: A Blossom in the Desert

  • November 20th, 2007

A Blossom in the DesertMiriam Huffman Rockness, author of A Passion for the Impossible, has just released a beautiful new hardback book full of quotations from Lilias Trotter’s writings as well as her beautiful artwork. A Blossom in the Desert belongs on your coffee table, to give you encouragement time and again as you ponder Lilias’ challenges and how she persevered to inspire the song, “Turn Your Eyes upon Jesus.”

The exquisite paintings and deeply inspirational writings in A Blossom in the Desert are drawn from the extensive body of work Lilias Trotter left: devotional books and leaflets, journals and letters, and thirty astonishingly beautiful page-a-day diaries. Lilias believed God has two textbooks–Scripture and Creation–and she studied both. Day by day, decade upon decade, through the season of her life, Lilias recorded in watercolors and words her observations filtered through her heavenly vision: God working out His purposes on a land and in a people.

240 pages of full color, inspirational art and meditations, with a satin bookmark.

A Blossom in the Desert would make an excellent Christmas gift of lasting value.

Cultivating God’s Presence

  • October 20th, 2007

The idea of cultivation and exercise, so dear to the saints of old, has now no place in our total religious picture. It is too slow, too common. We now demand glamour and fast-flowing dramatic action. A generation of Christians reared among push buttons and automatic machines is impatient of slower and less direct methods of reaching their goals. We have been trying to apply machine-age methods to our relations with God. We read our chapter, have our short devotions and rush away, hoping to make up for our deep inward bankruptcy by attending another gospel meeting or listening to another thrilling story told by a religious adventurer lately returned from afar.

The tragic results of this spirit are all about us: shallow lives, hollow religious philosophies, the preponderance of the element of fun in gospel meetings, the glorification of men, trust in religious externalities, quasi-religious fellowships, salesmanship methods, the mistaking of dynamic personality for the power of the Spirit. These and such as these are the symptoms of an evil disease, a deep and serious malady of the soul. –From A. W. Tozer, The Pursuit of God
